PhillyPAWS (Pets Are Wonderful Support)

Lewis Tower Building (originally at 13th and Locust, 2nd Floor, offices of Factor & Factor)

15th & Locust Sts.

Philadelphia PA 19106

Spring 1993

Founding board members included Sue Dakin, David Hellman, Sandra Herman, Laz Manou, Bob Moffatt

(joined by Marie Conti before the first year's end).

PhillyPAWS provided care and services for the companion animals of those with HIV/AIDS, and if needed,

adoption. PhillyPAWS was the only all-volunteer group of its kind in the country (most major metropolitan areas

had similar groups, some serving as models).

The closing of PhillyPAWS was primarily due to less of the need for its services as advances in medicine and

pharmaceuticals kept those with HIV/AIDS healthier, for longer.
