NAME: David Henney
Updated: David Henney, Veteran Dance-Music Promotion Exec, Dead at 50
July 17, 2012 |
Update: According to Henney's close friend Leslie Doyle, initial reports were incorrect: no alcohol was found in Henney's sytem and the death certificate is being changed to reflect that. She said the coroner noted an intestinal bleed, emphysema, and the presence of ibuprofen and aspirin in his system.
David Henney, a DJ and longtime dance-music promotion executive, was found dead at his home in Pennsylvania on Friday.
Henney worked at Elektra Records, then Logic Records and, from the early 1990s until around 2005, as an independent promotion team with former partner, Peter Knego. Most recently, he ran David Henney Productions while staying active as a DJ. He had many friends and contacts in the dance-music world and many remembrances have appeared on Twitter over the past few days.
A friend [netmix.com] that he succumbed to GI tract bleeding caused by chronic alcoholism.
Knego told Netmix, "I loved David's sense of humor and fun but most of all, he was a genuine friend and had an incredible business ethic. He would never take a record for the money if he didn't believe it would work on the charts. He was generous, honest and always had my back."
There will be no traditional memorial service, but a memorial will take place at Shep Pettibone's Paradise club in Asbury Park, NJ - reportedly the site of Henney's last DJ set - at the end of August, with date and time to be confirmed.
