NAME: Andrew Monroe Smith


Biography: Andrew Monroe Smith, 36, a fabric and fashion designer, died of complications from AIDS Tuesday at the Betak Hospice in the Mount Airy section. Mr. Smith had been part-owner of Philadelphia Designer's Collective Ltd. until it closed in 1990. He had also taught at the Philadelphia Craft Fashion Institute. In 1987, he was hired to work with award-winning menswear designer Susan Horton. The following year, he launched his own collection of women's afternoon wear.
