Name of Organization: Gay Community Center of Philadelphia


The original Gay Community Center was founded in 1976, and held its grand opening on Saturday, August 24, 1976.


A group of 25 members of the community formed a Steering Committee that developed the Center, and raised funds to rent and renovate a two story building at 324 Kater Street that had been a stable for horses of the mounted patrols of the Philadelphia Police,
