Lind, 27, a well-known city activist for people with AIDS, died Sunday from complications of AIDS at the Philadelphia Nursing Home. He was a resident of Marion Homes, a West Philadelphia hospice for AIDS patients. Mr. Lind, a Connecticut native known as Jimmy to friends, had held a variety of jobs, including security guard and flower shop employee. He was diagnosed as having AIDS 3 1/2 years ago. James M. Lind, an AIDS activist who had filed suit against the city and police in 1988 over alleged mistreatment after a demonstration, died Sunday of complications from the disease. He was 27 and had lived in West Philadelphia. Lind filed suit in U.S. District Court on Dec. 8, 1988, alleging that the city and unnamed police officers denied him medical care when he became ill and lost consciousness after being arrested in a June 1988 demonstration.
