NAME: Malcolm Lazin*

Biography:

Malcolm Lazin began Equality Forum in 1993 as PrideFest Philadelphia, a non-profit organization promoting understanding of the impact of homophobia and advancing gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) equality. Mr. Lazin, who served as the volunteer co-chairman from 1993 to 1999, was named executive director in September 1999.

A federal prosecutor, Mr. Lazin led federal grand jury investigations and taught white collar crime investigation to United States attorney's offices nationwide. He has served as the president of the Waterfront Developers Corporation and the Penn's Landing Development Corporation; was a partner at Rubin, Quinn, Moss & Patterson for 15 years; and was the Assistant United States Attorney from 1970 to 1974.

Dedicated to public service, Mr. Lazin currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Lebanon Valley College and is the chair of the Foglietta Plaza Committee and Washington Square Committee. He has served as president of the Society Hill Civic Association, co-chairman of the Local Legislative Committee of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, founder and board member of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge Lighting Committee, chair of the Pennsylvania Crime Commission, a member of the Board of Directors of First Executive Bank and co-chair of the Pennsylvania Committee for the International Year of the Child.

The recipient of numerous awards and honors, Mr. Lazin received the 2001 Man of the Year Award from Congregation Beth Ahavah, the Center City Proprietors Annual Philadelphia Business Award, the Philadelphia Veterans Advisory Committee Community Service Award, Philadelphia Magazine's "Best Entrepreneur Award" and the United States Attorney General's "Distinguished Service Award", to name a few. In 2005, Mr. Lazin received the Creative Leadership in Human Rights Award from the National Education Association (NEA). The Hunt Alternatives Fund named Mr. Lazin a Prime Mover in 2007 for his work to promote social justice.

Mr. Lazin received a Bachelor of Science degree from Lebanon Valley College. He received his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree in 1968 from Boston University School of Law.
