Testimonials to him (add a space before a new testimonial): I fell madly in love with him, having seen him at the A2, but I was too shy to approach him. Kept looking for another opportunity to meet him but never did. I hadn't known anything about him or his writing at the time. One day I was walking along Broad Street when the wind blew a scrap of newspaper under my foot. It was Joe's obituary. Stopped me in my tracks literally and figurately. I hadn't previously known of his illness or death. Years later when my then-lover and I bought a house together, my boyfriend's employer, Ed Hermance, owner of Giovanni's Room, donated to us Joe Beam's writing desk, a secretary really. Sigh. - Ricomo (Ricky Moreau)
