Biography: Friends say Millard Carl Russell 3d was an intensely private person, and so some were surprised when Mr. Russell agreed to join the very public fight to improve the care and treatment of those suffering from AIDS. "His involvement with AIDS groups really was thrust on him" when he contracted the disease, said Scott Wilds, of West Philadelphia, a longtime friend.
