Source: Roy H. Campbell, INQUIRER FASHION WRITER Joseph W. Smith Jr., 44, a professor of design and merchandising at Drexel University who was known in the local industry as Mr. Fashion, died yesterday of AIDS-related causes.

There were few greater champions of the local fashion industry than Mr. Smith, a longtime resident of Center City. People in the business often joked that it wasn't a real fashion event unless Mr. Smith was present, so known was he for his support of events big and small.
